Service Projects

It Feels Good To Make A Difference

There are lots of reasons to get involved in service. You learn while you serve. It feels good to make a difference. Some find it to be addictive. It’s a great way to develop character. But we’ve found that most students love it because it’s fun.

CiViL Groups provides you with opportunities to serve others in your school, community, state and nation. Students have found our service projects are fun, exciting, sometimes challenge, always rewarding. If you have an idea for a project, let us know. Here are some of the service projects we’ve sponsored:

Toys For Tots Collection – Around Christmas various local charities collect new toys for children who won’t otherwise have presents. Our students have participated in providing for disadvantaged children in Nashville.

Pull-tab Collection – CiViL Groups Students led a contest to see which Stratford homeroom could raise the most aluminum pull-tabs (the part of the can with the highest grade aluminum). Pull-tabs were donated to Ronald McDonald House.

Teacher Wish-List – Toward the spring, teachers start running out of supplies, so CiViL Groups students find out what their teachers need and solicit donations from local businesses to help provide.

Local Home Renovation Projects – Needy individuals get a hand from CiViL Groups students when they help with home renovation. After students rebuilt her front and back porch, one woman was able to qualify for homeowners’ insurance. The next local renovation project will take place during fall semester. Openings are available to Stratford CiViL Groups students and adult volunteer chaperones. To apply, download a LRP student packet or LRP adult packet, fill it out, and return it to us.

Hurricane Rebuilding Trips – CiViL Groups has sponsored five Hurricane Rebuilding Trips to Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, where the eye of Hurricane Katrina destroyed so many homes. Students have participated in painting, landscaping, house framing, installing appliances, and putting up siding. The work is hard, but it is also great fun. It’s also a chance to get out of Nashville and see how they live on the Gulf Coast! While these trips have been suspended due to improved conditions on the Gulf Coast, we are currently looking for other, similar service opportunities.
